Dr. Tommye Walker

As pastor of Sylvania Heights First Baptist Church since 2018, Reverend Doctor Tommye Walker leads one of the most vibrant churches in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was born in Merigold, MS, on July 11, 1958, to the late Andrew and Bernice Walker, Sr.  After graduating from college in 1981, he joined the United States, Air Force.  In 1983 he married Sanjeanetta Dumas of Auburn, Alabama. They have four children; Anyana, Dana, Javarus, and Tommye (TJ), and four grandchildren; Jaylen, Thomas, Aiden, Lauryn, Giana, Maya, and Mina.

Dr. Walker was called to preach in July 2002 and has been ministering throughout Northwest Florida. He received his Bachelor of Science in Math & Chemistry in 1981 at Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, MS. He obtained his Doctorate in Theology from Liberty Bible College in June 2009.  Rev. Walker was an active member of the Air Force from 1982 to 1992, joined the reserves, and retired as an Air Force Major in 2006.

In addition, Rev. Dr. Walker has been actively involved with community service in Okaloosa County for over 23 years, especially in the training and development of our youth.  He volunteers approximately 1000 hours per year for community service. He is the President of the local Fort Walton Beach Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.  He continues to be recognized by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Walton Beach Police Department, and other agencies as a leader in garnering a safe and peaceful community.  In April 2015, he received the highest award for exceptionally meritorious volunteer service in the Air Force Community.  Other countless awards and honors have been bestowed upon this great leader of Sylvania Heights First Baptist Church.

Prayer and worship form the basis of Sylvania Heights First Baptist Church. We offer a range of services and opportunities to participate. Our calendar includes time allotted for prayer, sermons, personal reflection, and guided Bible study.
